In the first lesson the group showed me the story of 'Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves' as i wasn't in and helped me adapt to the role I would be playing.
I felt everyone was concentrating in the lesson and we'd got a lot done. We all need to keep working at this level the achieve our goals.
In lesson two we went back to using masks, like in 'The Story of Es-Sindibad', to perfect our technique of using our bodies and not just our faces to express feelings and emotions.
Jamie split the class into two groups and we each had to pick out a mask. Each group took it in turns to stand in a line on one side of the stage, with their masks on, and walk to the other side portraying what they thought was the emotion on their mask using their whole body. After reaching the other side of the stage, the group had to walk back but this time showing the total opposite emotion with their bodies from the first, but still with the mask on.
I found this exercise really helpful and have now realised I need to exaggerate every single movement when wearing a mask.
Leona and David then did an improvisation wearing masks. They created a silent scene where Leona offered David a seat nest to her on the bench. The scene then progressed to Leona offering David different sized food.
The third lesson we went back to 'The Story of Es-Sindibad'. We rehearsed the whole scene over and over again until the end of the day. There is still a few parts that need perfecting but its coming together well.
I feel that we as a group have achieved a lot today and need to keep working like this everyday and use up our rehearsal time appropriately.
