'The Story of Es-Sindibad'
Today we started to look at the story of es-sindibad. As a group we decided we would perform this story silently, while the characters wore masks and have a recording of the dialogue which will be played in the background.
While wearing masks the audience obviously wont be able to see facial expression, so we had to learn how to show emotions such as Happy, Sad and Surprised using just our bodies.

The characters of this story discovered their elements, then we started to devise the scene. Dinarzad, Sharazad and The King are sat up-stage left, giving the illusion that Sharazad is telling The King and Dinarzad the story. The other characters created an abstract house using their bodies and sticks to set the scene and start the story.

The three merchants (Me, Paige and Teri) then had to create and abstract tree using 3 sticks on the opposite side of the stage. We each found 3 still images to move into to give the illusion of a tree blowing in  the wind.

By the end of the lessons we managed to put it all together and create the first part of the story, even though we weren't all focused throughout the day. I feel that the group struggles to create abstract and original ideas. I need to work on explaining my ideas better and listening to others opinions without getting frustrated.
